CLE = COMEDIC LEGAL EDUCATION
For many lawyers, sitting through a lecture on legal ethics or professionalism can be the equivalent of traffic school. In fact, many lawyers view CLE as being worse than traffic school. After all, at least with traffic school, they've done something wrong to deserve their "punishment." That's why Mr. Carter has developed an alternative to traditional CLE programs -- comedic legal education. For the last three years, Mr. Carter has crisscrossed the country giving humorous CLE talks to state and local bar associations, law firms and in-house legal departments in more than 25 states. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. "We brought Sean in for the opening keynote speech at this year’s annual Bar Conference. He also stayed on and did a breakout session the following day. We had Sean do an ethics presentation which has drawn more favorable comments from Bar members than any other presentation we have given in the last four years. (And we have been very popular among the CLE choices available.) Sean’s keynote was so good that the breakout session did not have any empty chairs (room of about 150 or so) and several people came in and stood in the back throughout his session. You will not go wrong finding a spot in your next program for Mr. Carter."
PROGRAM LIST Legal Ethics A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Disciplinary Hearing In this hilarious presentation, Mr. Carter explores some of the more outrageous disciplinary cases that come before state bar committees and how lawyers can avoid being part of them.
"Sean Carter is the 'Chris Rock' of legal ethics. He makes ethics fun."
In this fast-paced presentation, Mr. Carter explores the dos (and mostly, don'ts) of marketing under the code of legal ethics.
In this off-beat presentation, Mr. Carter takes on the topic of lawyer jokes and what they tell us about the perception of the profession and our adherence to the rules of professional conduct.
Professionalism
Sue Unto Others As You Would Have Them Sue Unto You In this presentation, legal humorist Sean Carter shares his wacky, irreverent, yet insightful thoughts on the subject of professionalism. Specifically, Mr. Carter explains how to put the "civil" back into civil litigation and reminds lawyers in all practice areas to follow the Golden Rule -- sue unto others as you would have them sue unto you.
"Sean, you were great!"
Stress Management
In this presentation, Mr. Carter draws in his decade of experience in both law firms and in-house legal departments to share the three-steps to a more stress-free career: (1) Get a clue; (2) Get a grip; and (3) Get a life!
"Humorous yet practical advice."
Substance Abuse
In this presentation, Mr. Carter uses humor to tackle a very serious problem in the legal profession -- the detection, treatment and prevention of substance abuse.
" It was an excellent program that lightened up a very dreary subject. Lawghter really is the best medicine."
General Legal Education
The Supreme Court 2005-2006: The Shock and Awe Campaign In this hilarious presentation, Sean Carter takes a light-hearted look at the sometimes shocking decisions of the Supreme Court during its 2005-2006 term.
"The best constitutional law program I ever attended. I learned as I laughed."
A Lawpsided View of the Profession In this hilarious presentation, Mr. Carter explores some of the more outrageous aspects of the legal profession. Lawyers and legal staff persons alike will get a kick out of hearing about outrageous lawsuits ("McDonald's made me fat!"), celebrity trials, dumb laws, lawyers behaving badly and life inside a law firm. "Sean Carter is a bright, articulate individual who will insightfully entertain and educate an audience about the life of the law from a perspective that is credible and interesting."
Diversity / Elimination of Bias
In this light-hearted approach to a sometimes troubling subject, Sean Carter explores the issues involved in recruiting and retaining minority and women employees.
"It's the best program on diversity I've heard in my 13 years of practice." |
